Avoid debit card fraud while traveling
Do you have upcoming travel plans? Here are some steps you can take to make sure your cards work when you need them:
- Notify your banker of upcoming travel plans including when and where. Your banker can help establish a solid back-up plan, like applying for an Elan credit card or purchasing a gift card1, in advance.
- Remember your debit card PIN, even if you rarely use the card at an ATM. You can change your PIN to a number that's easy to remember, but hard for others to guess, by calling AnchorLine at Twin Cities (952) 808-8083, Mankato (507) 625-0405 or Toll-free (800) 425-5150. If you are not able to authorize a purchase with your signature, try using your PIN.
- Make sure to travel with at least two alternative forms of payment; Anchor debit cards are on a MasterCard® network, and Anchor credit cards are on the VISA® or American Express® network.2 Carrying multiple forms of payment makes it less likely to be blocked from using either card.
- If you ever notice unusual activity on your accounts – even small dollar amounts –call your banker immediately, or use our card management tools available through Anchor Mobile or Online Banking to cancel your card.
1Gift cards cannot be used outside of the U.S.
2Subject to credit approval. The creditor and issuer of these cards is Elan Financial Services, pursuant to separate licenses from Visa U.S.A. Inc. and American Express. American Expressis a federally registered service mark of American Express.
